Soutelo Neighbourhood Souls' Shrine Peto de ánimas

  • Goián, Soutelo Neighbourhood, 1915
  • Coordinates:41.956729, -8.777524
It is located in O Soutelo Neighbourhood and features a niche with a semicircular arch housing a small polychrome wooden altarpiece, which depicts the souls among the flames. The figure of a bishop stands out in the centre. Below this is the scene that gives the shrine its name: a kneeling boy with a dog that is biting his hand. It appears to have been built on a vow made by the boy's parents so that he would not contract rabies. The rest of the structure is built of stone and consists of two sections: the upper one, topped by a curved moulding supporting a free-standing cross of square section. On this one it is visible de date of construction: “AÑO D1815” and the following inscription: «PASAJEIOAYDNS/ARDIENDOYQEIV/ VAYASCORIENDO/YNDARLIMOSNA». The lower section continues the inscription: «ADVOCIOND/ JUANANTº/ D UM». It is currently protected by a cement chapel-like structure. There is also, on the inside, two small recessed niches, which are used for placing the candles.
