Souls' Shrine Peto de ánimas

  • Barrantes, Parish Church, 1783
  • Coordinates:42.0151, -8.76284
Its is carved from a single piece of stone. It features a chapel with a double semicircular arched niche, which is currently empty. The upper part is topped with a free-standing cross of square-section. There is an engraved inscription on the stone that is barely legible due to erosion and moss. However, the date 1783 can still be discerned. According to the Boletín da Asociación da Aurora, in an article about the parish of Barrantes, the text once read: “ESCUDO DE ANIMAS ...1783”. This was not its original location, and it is currently disused and partially hidden by vegetation.
