San Lourenzo Priory Stone Cross Cruceiro

  • Goián, San Lourenzo, h.1900.
  • Coordinates:41.950591, -8.794557
It is located just a few metres from the San Lourenzo Chapel. It features three steps supporting a truncated pyramidal base, which holds a fluted shaft. The first part of the column begins with a square section that turns into cylindrical towards the end. . There is a small sculpture, near the capital, of a saint on a scallop shell, holding a book. The fluted capital supports two figures: Christ and the Virgin Mary. The absence of a cross and the disproportionate head of Christ are the result of later modifications. The head was replaced in the 1950s. It has an inscription that covers the four sides of the base and that is slightly eroded due to the passage of time. This is the posible transcription: "ESTECRUCERO/AÑD19", "LOIZO PORISV", "MVGERDA A, "LONSSO".
