Pazo do Couto Stone Cross Cruceiro

  • Goián, O Couto, Late 16th century.
  • Coordinates:41.951121, -8.756407
It is located in the area known as A Igrexa Vella, referring to an ancient chapel that has now dissappeared. This Stone Cross is one of the oldest in the city council. It stands on three steps supporting a quadrangular base with chamfered upper edges, which holds a fluted cylindrical shaft. There are three skulls that stick out from the corners of the capital, and on top of this, there is a cross of straight arms. There is the Crucified Christ beneath a cartouche on one side and a figure that is not very well preserved, which could be the Virgyn Mary with the Child Jesus, on the other. It features heavily deteriorated inscriptions on each one of the sides of the base. Posible transcription: "MEFESPOR" "SVDEVAZ" "ION159" "º PJAVALE".
