O Barro Neighbourhood Stone Cross Cruceiro

  • Tomiño, O Barro Neighbourhood, 17th century. 1699.
  • Coordinates:42.000396, -8.735021
It is located in the neigbourhood of O Barro, right at a crossroads, and is protected by iron bars. It features a single step supporting a cubic base with chamfered upper edges. On the lintel of the upper edges, there is and engraved inscription that is hard to interpret due to erosion, but in which “ ESTECRVCEROMA (upper side) ANO1669 (lower side)/ NDOACER/REYROISVMEGE/RDOMRO RODRIGUES» can still be read. The shaft starts with a quadrangular piece and turns into a cylindrical fluted column. Two opposing sculptures stand out on brackets: the Pietà on one side and Saint Peter with his identifying key on the other. The capital has plant motifs and supports the cross that displays the Virgin of the Rosary on one side and the Crucified Christ beneath a cartouche on the other.
