Cristelos Neighbourhood Tall Cross and Wayside Shrine Cruz alta e peto de ánimas

  • Barrantes, Cristelos Neighbourhood, 18th-19th centuries.
  • Coordinates:42.031459, -8.764165
It features a square section with bevelled corners and stands on a prismatic pedestal. On the short arm, tehre is has a heavily eroded inscription that seems to read “ANO DE 1760” on the left. The rest of the text is now practically illegible, but according to the text by Félix Loira and Estanislao Fernández, it could read “COEODACO”. The Wayside Shrine has a structure typical of the area. It consists of a pillar with a very worn inscription dating from 1871 or 1891. This supports the chapel, which formerly held a small altarpiece under a semicircular arch, now completely empty. It has a gabled roof that was once topped by a cross, which is no longer preserved.
